THE CORSAGE PROJECT

The Corsage Project

New projects and commitments have taken my attention lately. Let me tell you a little bit about one such project ... Recently, I joined the committee that steers The Corsage Project, a community-based program of the Children's Aid Foundation that provides new (and free) prom dresses, shoes and accessories to girls across the Greater Toronto Area who could otherwise not afford to attend their graduation prom. Did you know that it costs about $500 to go to the prom when you add up the costs of the dress, shoes, accessories and ticket?

This year, The Corsage Project's annual Boutique Ball was held April 21 with more than 250 girls in attendance. Each girl was paired up with a volunteer personal shopper to search the racks of beautiful dresses and tables of shoes and fancy accessories for their perfect prom outfit. The last stop is a mini-makeover and alterations.

It was incredible to see the transformation in the girls during the course of the event -- many arrived feeling unsure and nervous, but left with wide smiles and giddy laughs. A remarkable experience for all involved. I am honored to be a part of such a great program that directly impacts deserving girls across our city, and makes their prom dreams a reality.
