FOR THE LOVE OF SWEATERS

Cozy sweater

This morning Little Bean came to me with one of Monkey's warm wool sweaters in hand. She was determined to wear it today. While I do appreciate her desire to wrap herself in a cozy sweater -- Fall is my favourite season -- it is still premature to do so in Bermuda where we're still in shorts and t-shirts most days.

So, in honour of Little Bean and my favourite season that is underway in Canada, I've rounded up my favourite sweaters for the cooler season ...

STYLE INSPIRATION: WHITE JEANS

 White jeans

I was reluctant to try white jeans for fear they would be unflattering, but now I am a convert. White jeans have a way of making an ordinary jeans and t-shirt outfit look a little more chic. The Rag & Bone Skinny Jean is always my favourite and looks great in bright white, but if you're like me and have to dodge stains all day then check out this pair or this pair (this is the pair I have and the fit is great).

Here are a few more looks ...

STREET STYLE: COZY & FEMININE

street style inspiration

A cable-knit sweater paired with a sophisticated pencil skirt and  heels make for winter outfit that is cozy yet feminine. This would be perfect for work when the thermometer dips. Here's my take on this outfit ...

STYLE INSPIRATION: CLASSIC, MONOCHROMATIC OUTFIT

This is style simplicity at its best -- a classic monochromatic look that is equally relaxed and elegant. It's perfect for every day wear, and what I like most about this simple outfit is that it takes the guesswork (and time!) out of getting dressed in the morning.

Here's my take on the monochromatic outfit in military green for the Fall season ...

THE BASEBALL HAT

I've shunned the baseball cap all my life in favour of big, wide-brimmed sunhats that I thought gave me the most sun protection. But no longer. I discovered the baseball cap during our trip to Nantucket. Under my wide-brimmed sunhat I'd have to crane my neck to see and hold tight when the wind picked up, but not with my new baseball hat. It is practical, so I wear it frequently giving me more sun protection than the odd time I'd wear my big hat. I'm a convert.

Here are a few photos to prove the baseball cap is not only practical, but stylish (check out J.Crew's cool new monogrammed cap) and not just meant for the field anymore ...

SYTLE INSPIRATION: WORK UNIFORM

Caroline's Mode street style photo
If I went to an office every day, this would be my go-to work uniform. It's a simple outfit with a flattering midi skirt and practical layers to ease office air conditioning. Here's my take on this outfit ...

JCrew sweater, Marni skirt, Ray Ban sunglasses, Aldo heels, Claire Vivier clutch, MAC lipstick
Sweater / Skirt / T-shirt / Sunglasses / Clutch / Heels / Lipstick

I adore the pattern of this skirt by Marni, but ASOS has great midi skirts (like this navy one) that are much more friendly on the wallet.

STREET STYLE INSPIRATION

Spring street style by The Sartorialist

This outfit has everything that I love about Spring style ... a full skirt (with bare legs!), cropped jacket, embellished shoes and beautiful scarf for layering. Now, if only the weather would warm up so I can shed my winter parka.

HOLIDAY HAIR INSPIRATION

Gibson Roll Hairstyle
This is such a pretty hairstyle. It's called the Gibson Roll and you can find a step-by-step tutorial at A Cup of Jo (along with 13 other hair tutorials). It is super easy to do. I promise, even I was able to recreate this style.

Don't you think this would be beautiful for holiday festivities?

GOODBYE BANGS, GOODBYE

Hair idea for bangs
It's time to grow out my bangs. I should have done it sooner because I really can't imagine another winter with crazy, uncontrollable hat head. How perfect is this hairstyle for that period when your bangs are just too short to tuck behind an ear? The best part is that it looks so simple to do, which is an absolute must for me and my lack of hair styling skills.

STYLE INSPIRATION: BRAIDS

I desperately need some hair inspiration. Ponytails and top knots are my go-to style, which tells you that I'm not at all skilled in this area. How pretty are these styles that incorporate braids? Even I might be able to figure out how to do the first one ...
